When I was coming up and have no knowledge concerning anything online, that was when I got a mobile phone newly but don’t know where to start from. Although I always have this passion to learn and have more knowledge especially in the technology and online world. What I did back then was to use my phone to research and also scroll social media, so one day as I was scrolling social media with my phone, I now saw an ad to learn affiliate marketing then I clicked on the ads and started learning affiliate marketing. As I was done learning affiliate marketing, I practiced what I learnt and was able to sell up to 5 digital products. I then decided to scale up my skill, so I search for skill that will be profitable for me to learn and I was able to discover web development, so I went ahead to register for a tech bootcamp so as to be able to learn web development and be able to create and build website. That was how I started learning and writing codes for my website.
THE EXACT STEPS I TOOK AS A TOTAL BEGINNER
As a beginner in web development, I followed some steps to be able to achieve the goal of building different type of website. These are the steps that I took earlier as a beginner; (1) I started learning HTML which is known as HyperText Markup Language and it serve as the structure of the website. (2) Then I move to start learning CSS which is Cascading Style Sheet and it is used for adding styles to the website. (3) After learning HTML and CSS, I moved on to start learning Bootstrap and JavaScript, so bootstrap is a CSS framework that is used to add styling to website easily because it is already customized and JavaScript Is used for like adding behavior to the website based on the task or function that you want to carry out on your website.
BEGINNER-FRIENDLY TOOLS THAT MADE LEARNING HTML EASY
I was using notepad to write my code when I started newly, but with time I now moved to using Vs Code editor, which now made the journey easier for me. So already I have my HTML, CSS and JavaScript training note which I use to read in order to understand some terms, that was how my journey and tools I used when I was learning HTML looks like, And also I used some free video training resources that I downloaded from some YouTube channel, and some of the channel name are Bro Code, Freecode Camp, Traversy Media. For you to understand me better, let me just say I used Vs Code, Resource note and video training from YouTube. Those are some of the resources and tools that help my journey earlier a beginner on web development.
CHALLENGES I FACED (AND HOW I OVERCAME THEM)
While I was learning, there were some challenges that I face as a beginner, and some of the challenges are; (1) Trying to learn everything at once, which didn’t help but rather it slows down my growth and progress. (2) following and learning from different creators on YouTube, which even made me to be confuse and I now decided to stick to just one or two creators. (3) Try to see and compete with follow developer, which I never knew that I was delaying myself and I learnt that I should learn and collaborate with them rather than to compete with them. For me to overcome those challenges, I now have to follow normal process and not rush to learn everything at once, follow just two creators to learn from them and also learn from other developers and not compete with them.
MY FIRST HTML PROJECT AND WHAT I LEARNED FROM IT
So, while I was learning, I was also building projects which then I was able to learn a lots also from the projects, and when I say projects, Just Known that it means what you have done or built by yourself. One of the projects that I built was a website which carry information about myself, in the website I added some text, images, links, bookmark, and immediately I was done building just that small project, I notice that I learnt from it also, that I can quickly add text, images, links with no stress. So, if you are a beginner then you should try your best to build projects because it will help you to learn faster and also have things to show as your prove that you have built a project which will also help you to gain more experience.
TIPS I WISH SOMEONE TOLD ME EARLIER
As a beginner that is learning and building things, there are some tips that you might not know, but will definitely learn the future as you build more projects. I wish someone told me these tips when I was starting earlier; (1) I don’t need to learn every at once but follow normal process. (2) Also, that I don’t need to chase hundreds of tutorials but builds at least little projects. (3) I need to google things that I don’t know on google, that is searching on google to learn still makes me a developer. (4) I don’t need to look for perfection as a beginner, even if my first website looks ugly then the second one will be okay, that is the more I will build the better and beautiful it will look.
