WHAT IS SEARCH CONSOLE?
Google search console is a platform that is owned by google and it was created so that people can be able to submit their website to google which will now help them to visibility when someone searches for things that their website is known for, because on the process of you submitting your website to google, you are directly telling google that “this is my website and you can show it to people”. And with this now google already now knows your website.
WHY YOU SHOULD ADD YOUR WEBSITE
If you want to get many visitors from google search to your website, then you have to go ahead and add your website to google search console, as I earlier told you that as you submit your website to google then what you are doing is to let google know that it is your website and also that it can be shown to people. Now how it works is that as you submit your website to google search console, don’t expect it to start showing on google first page immediately, because what google does is that they will take some time to check and go through your website and that is what we normally call as google crawling your website. And after google is done crawling your website then they will now index it, and indexing means that google will now add your website on their list and will now likely show it to people when they search your website name or keywords related to your website.
ADDING YOUR WEBSITE TO SEARCH CONSOLE & VERIFY WEBSITE OWNERSHIP
Now we will be moving to the main step by step guide on how to add your website to google search console so that google can be able to show your website to people who search for some terms in your website. These is the step-by-step way that you can submit your website to google search console; (1) Visit Google Search Console Website: now you will have to go google search console official website that is owned by google and then sign in with your google account (Gmail) and if you don’t have a google account then you can create one and sign in with the account to google search console. (2) Submit your Website Link: after you are done signing up on google search console then you will see a place to add your website URL, you will see two options which are domain property and URL prefix. Choose URL prefix and add your full website URL and then click on continue. (3) Verify Website Ownership: for google to be able to accept your website, they have to be sure that the website belongs to you and in that case, they will give you different method to confirm that the website belongs to you. But the easiest verification method is the use of HTML tag and to do this method, google gives you a HTML meta tag to paste it on the head section of your website, go ahead and copy the code then go to your website inside your <head> section and paste it, once you are done pasting and saving it, then go back to google search console and click verify. (4) Search Console Account is Ready: after doing all that I have said and have come to this point then congratulations because your google search console account is ready, you will see your dashboard and your website status but google will not show you data of your website immediately but it can take hours or days. (5) Submit your Sitemap: sitemap is a file that contains all the links to the pages on your website and when the page or post was added, and if you are coding your website by yourself then you will have to create a sitem.xml file and then you will now have to add all the links of the pages and post on your website and then your sitemap will be like this “your-domain/sitemap.xml”. After making sure that you have your sitemap on your website then you will have to submit it to google search console by; (i) click on the sitemap in google search console nav bar. (ii) add the link to your sitemap and click on submit. You have finally added your sitemap and google can be able to now discover all your website pages and index your content. (6) Submit each URL: if you just publish a new post or page on your website then copy the link of the post and go to URL inspection inside your google search console, then paste the link that you copied and click on “Request Indexing”. This will make google robot to crawl your website faster.
